Get a quick list of tips for parents to improve your child's homework performance.. Blowing off kids' requests for homework help is one extreme, but doing the work for your child is the other no-no. Avoid simply giving answers. Instead, ask questions that let your child see the problem in smaller, sequential steps. You won't be there to take your child's tests for him, so doing his tough.
Use a homework timer. A timer can help keep homework on track and give your child a better sense of time. There are many types of timers to choose from. For instance, if your child is distracted by sounds, a ticking kitchen timer may not be the ideal choice. Instead, try an hourglass timer or one that vibrates.

It's important to answer questions if you can — but remember that homework is supposed to help children learn and that doing your child's homework does not help in the long run. Help them look at the homework they have and break it up into different areas of study and by difficulty. Have them tackle the hard assignments first and move on to the easier ones when they finish.
